College Majors Ranked by Unemployment Rates

This post ranks college majors by the early career unemployment rates. The data includes respondents to the American Community Survey between 2009-2019, ages 23-30 who have a bachelor’s degree, and thus gives a glimpse into the early career outcomes by major.

See the methodology here.

Higher-ranked majors have lower unemployment rates, whereas lower-ranked majors have higher unemployment rates. For example, Soil Science, ranked 1st, has the lowest overall unemployment rate of just 0.37% of its degree holders experiencing unemployment in early career. On the other hand, Clinical Psychology, ranked last, has about 9% of degree recipients unemployed.
